On the first Tuesday of each month, schools around the country run an event to raise awareness, supplies, and money. Sometimes, we hold a bake sale but also have movie screenings and other fun activities. The idea is to get students and teachers excited about learning more and appreciating the challenges surrounding this issues around lack of access and affordability of feminine hygiene products. During a bake sale, for example, you can buy a cookie or other item with a tampon or cash. The tampons and pads are being donated to the Maria Shelter and others around the country with the hope that they will help some people both in and outside my community. The cash will be donated to Days for Girls International in an effort to help fight the stigma surrounding periods in less developed countries. Are you interested in starting a Tampon Tuesday branch at your school? Go to the tab "Start Your Own" under "Tampon Tuesday" for some tips.
